The Best Alternative to Acrylic Spas

Acrylic Spas too Pricey?  Here's your affordable, portable and strong alternative:
Why Rotational Molded Spas from Freeflow Spas offer you the best alternative to acrylic spas:  They're affordable, portable, and strong!

Ok, so you've read and learned all there is to know about spas.  The incredible health benefits including better sleep, renewed energy, sore muscle relief, arthritis relief, and such.  You've even got a great spot picked out in your backyard, complete with landscaping ideals and a vision of a backyard vacation destination.  All in the privacy of your own home, without having to travel on trains, planes, or automobiles.

So with this renewed vigor in your step, your mind on a mission, you head on down to the local spa store to check out your choices.  And then it hits you.  WOW! $8,000 to $15,000 for a hot tub!  And not wanting to be embarrased when the salesperson gently prodded "well how much did you think you these costs", you head on out of the store with a quick "Gotta go home and measure!  Be right back!"  Or some other excuse.  You go home, a little deflated wondering "did I hear that guy right?  is it really that much?"  You sit there thinking "Sure, they look nice; and the components are top quality; and I could really use the stress and muscle relief.  But I don't want to have to refinance my home just to get it!  It's supposed to relieve stress, not add to it!"

If this story is all too familiar, you're not alone.  Research has shown that most people (70% - 80%) believe that a spa costs about $4K to $6K.  And they're blown away when they walk in and find out that the spa they've looked at,  gotten excited about, and want to get is suddenly $8,000 to $10,000 or more.  So they leave empty handed and disappointed.

Is there an affordable alternative?  Absolutely!

What if there was a way to take the same top-quality components used in the big brand names (Sundance, Jacuzzi, Hot Spring, Marquis, Dimension One, Caldera, etc.) and put them in a spa that costs 1/2 as much to build?  That would surely lower the price ~ without skimping on quality.  The answer is a Rotational Molded Spa from Freeflow Spas.  To understand how this can save you big $$, let's do a quick review on how a traditional spa is made...

Quite simply, they take an acrylic sheet (about 1/8" thick) and heat it up and vacuum it around a mold.  As it stretches and conforms to the shape of the mold, it gets thin and brittle.  So to strengthen it companies shoot resins, fiberglass and other "stuff" on to the back of it.  Some manufacturers use a Vinylester, Restilin, or other bonding agent to go between the acrylic and fiberglass to prevent de-lamination (separation) between the acrylic and fiberglass (hence the "bonding" or "laminating" technique that companies refer to.  This makes the shell very heavy, so a wood or steel frame is constructed to support the heavy shell.  This takes a lot of labor and time - usually 6 to 8 hours and 3 to 4 people - before the company can even drill one hole for the jets.  Labor intensive, Time intensive and of course, costly.

Rotational Molding is quite different.  In a nutshell, we take a large aluminum block and cut it in half. We create a mold from the two pieces.  When we're ready to make a spa we take the mold, fill it with a crystalline material (high impact, thermal plastic) and put it into a large oven.  Inside the oven the mold is twisted and rotated 360 degrees at a high temperature, for about 45 minutes.  Afterwards it is cooled down by water and air; the mold is opened and the spa "pops" out.  Kind of a "shake and bake" thing.  Is it durab e?  Will it last?  Well that's the great part.  Lots of everyday items are made from rotational molding.  In fact, think back to that great childhood toy:  The Big Wheel.  You got it as a small kid.  You rode, pedaled and turned your way along miles of sidewalk and street.  Through elementary, junior high and beyond.  Heck, you even graduated college or trade school and where's your Big Wheel?  Probably in the garage or attic waiting to be passed on to your kids or even your kids' kids.

Rotational molding does have its drawbacks, though.  Because it's plastic, we can't make them as big.  Or as pretty.  So if you're looking for a Block Party tub, or a tub with the fancy shiny marble look then a Freeflow Spa probably isn't for you.  But if you're looking for something portable, affordable and well built, then keep on reading!

So, we take that "shake and baked" spa shell and put in the No. 1 used heater and equipment pack from the No. 1 manufacturer - Balboa Instruments.  We'll put in pumps from  Aqua-Flo, the most recognized brand in the business.  Attach it all to Waterway jets (again, the most popular brand of jets) using production methods such as barb and clamp fittings (instead of just glue) which reduce the chances of leaking, manifolds for even water distribution, and full foam insulation to keep your energy costs down. In addition, all of our spas have the option of either plugging into a standard 110v outlet, or you can wire it for 220v.

Don't get me wrong, acrylic spas are great.  They offer great looks - some even have faux stone cabinets.  But here's something to remember, when it all comes down to it, you can brag about 100's of jets, 20 horsepower pumps, fancy lights and stereos.  But at the end of a long day, when you're ready to get into your hot tub, you're really only going to worry about 3 things:  Does the water look good, does it smell good, and is it the right temperature?  If it's not anyone of those three things, you're not going to get in.  And Freeflow Spas delivers all three of those things in an affordable, portable and durable package.

Freeflow Spas are equipped with the same top quality components as spas costing twice as much, so Why Pay More?

All TEN of our models retail for less than $4495.  So now there's no deciding between a spa and a bbq island:  you can have both.  No deciding between the spa and a home theater system:  you can have both.  No deciding between the spa and an atv/watercraft:  you can have both.

Oh, and if you're wondering just how "not pretty" is "not pretty", here are some photos of our spas:
